XENICAL is used to treat obesity or reduce the amount of food that your body produces. Orlistat (Xenical/Orlistat, Alli, Xenical/Xenical, AlliXen) and Alli (AlliXen) are also used to reduce the risk of developing diabetes. When used along with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise, this medication reduces the amount of fat absorbed by the body.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, with or without food as the starting dose or as indicated below. If a reduced-calorie diet and exercise plan is indicated by your doctor that includes calorie restriction, take this along with this medication. Do not skip or stop the medication without your doctor's approval. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
If you are taking orlistat and have not been started on a low dose of this medication, you may increase your dosage by taking a lower dosage (up to or less often than indicated).
Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Keep taking the medication even if you are feeling well. Most people may experience minor or no effects on the body. However, if you experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, breast lumps, pain, nipple discharge, or changes in the shape, size, or texture of your nipple (difficulty with swallowing), or lump in or around the nipple, contact your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
To reduce the risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose (usually taken 1-2 hours before or 2-3 hours after you take orlistat).
